- <p> DIED. BERT YANCEY, 56, professional golfer; of a probable heart
- attack; in Park City, Utah. Before manic depression destroyed
- his career, Yancey was a top player who often contended for--but rarely captured--the nation's elite golfing championships.
- The disease apparently first struck when he was a senior at
- West Point; it took some 15 years before he was diagnosed properly
- and treated with lithium. The drug controlled the illness but
- gave Yancey hand tremors. Despite the loss of his mastery, he
- continued to play, eventually gaining renown as a teaching pro.
